These Fyros crafters are beyond compare furnishing the city of Pyr with high-quality products. The need for water, an essential element for their craft, has brought them to the oasis area. Cities of Intuition was the first region of the Witherings to be secured by the [[Zoraï|Zoraïs]] after their two year reclusion in the [[Prime Roots]]. It was the sage [[Fung-Tun]] who, after receiving a premonition as to where to establish communion with spirits of the ancient world, conveyed the right to build the [[Zora|Zoraï city]] there.<br />

The capital city [[Zora]] was raised in memory of the multitudes who lost their lives during the [[kitin invasion]] of the ancient captial, [[Zoran]]. There then followed the construction of the three villages. [[Min-Cho]] and [[Hoï-Cho]] took their names from two great spiritual leaders whose successive reigns bridged the gulf between the dynasties of the old lands and the new. [[Min-Cho (sage)|Min-Cho]] lost his life during the [[Great Swarming]] in the ancient lands, [[Hoï-Cho (sage)|Hoï-Cho]] became the first Zoraï leader of the newfound lands. [[Jen-Laï]] was built in the name of [[Jena]], the Matis goddess. It was the inspiration of Fung-Tun, who, during the Prime Root exile, had taken part in the monthly meetings with the [[Karavan]] contingent to take stock of the war with the kitins.<br />

Still under the trauma of the great kitin invasion, the Zoraïs purposely built these first settlements of the [[Witherings]] into hollows of the bark to allow better defense in case of kitin attack. Between the villages of Min-Cho and Hoï-Cho, the traveler may come upon a camp of a crafter tribe, known as the [[Icon Worshippers]], the only one pertaining to the region. The outpost was fortified following repeated attacks by animals contaminated by the [[Goo]]. Hotbeds of infection were discovered to the northwest, in the [[Lost Valley]]. Several expeditions were sent to try and destroy it, but with little success. When the tree-bore in the outpost began to wilt, contaminated by the purple plague, it sounded the death knell for the fortress which was quickly abandoned.<br />

The region [[Liberty Lake]] consists of a myriad of lakes and lagoons situated on the continent of [[Aeden Aqueous]]. This was the first lake district Trykers came upon after two years of underground confinement in the [[Prime Roots]]. The name was given by Tryker sages not only to reflect the general sensation of new liberation, but also as a constant reminder to all those who would dare harbor thoughts that would infringe on the Tryker fundamental values of freedom for all and all for freedom. Superstitions Trykers believe to this day that the mere evocation of the name in the mouth of a potential aggressor would distance any intention of suppression.<br />

A first new settlement was naturally outlinde in the paradisical lands and arose to become the new aptly named Tryker capital of [[Fairhaven]]. Three villages, whose names are equally reminiscent of Tryker values, also flourish in the region. [[Crystabell]], where crystalline waters flow; [[Windermeer (town)|Windermeer]], known for its windy tops and wind turbines; and [[Avendale]], seated in the beautiful valley east of the capital. [[Liberty Lake]] also shelters as many as six outposts including [[Outposts|Darkmoor Border Post]], Dainty Isle Workshop, Sandy Workshop, Farely Farm, Greenvale Trade Post and Windermeer Farm. They are generally occupied by the [[Corsairs]], the only tribe in the region.<br />

Being the first area of the Lake Lands to be explored by Trykers, Liberty Lake is consequently the safest of the continent where the young Tryker novice is able to lean the ropes and get to grips with improving skills. In their penchant for conservationism, the Tryker have also developed the technique of water purification, and they continue to look on water not only for its biological value, but seek to use it for energetic ends.<br />

==History==<br />
The Trykers, probably the greatest seafarers of the ancient world, lived in floating villages in the lake lands known as Trykoth. Their principle cities, all ports, included Jeniah and Breneth. They formed a myriad of tribes, with each tribe being headed by a counsel whose duty it was to settle disputes and keep the peace. But their peaceful and idyllic existence became blighted when a great fire, known as the Fire of Coriolis, spread across Atys wastelands to the north so cutting off the water route between desert and lake lands as well as their [[Fyros]] protectors. Taking advantage of the calamity in the north to break the Fyro-Tryker alliance, the [[Matis]] king, [[Aniro III]], led a lightening campaign to the south invading lake lands and easily reducing surviving Trykers to slavery. But an organized fellowship of rebels led by Loria broke away taking refuge in the depths of Atys.<br />

Travelling from the Canopy to the [[Prime Roots]], these Tryker heroes strove to shatter the shackles binding their brothers and led them across the Bark of Atys braving the worst of dangers. At the same time, realizing that without water supplies from the lake lands his empire would crumble, the then aged Abylus the Learned, launched an all out attack on the Matis front in an attempt to re-establish the water route running through Matis territory to the Lake Lands. Matis forces thus engaged in all out warfare were unable to quell the revolt led by the [[The Company of Loria|Company of Loria]] who led their people back to the Lake Lands. Loria masterly divided her people into combat groups, each one led by a member of the Company to exert repeated alternating attacks along the southern front so creating havoc and relieving flagging Fyros forces in the north and west. Faced with Fyros-Tryker pressure, [[Aniro III]] eventually took the decision to retreat back to his former dominions rather than risk losing them completely.<br />

The water route was open again and, wiser after the battle, the Trykers further developed their newfound guerilla skills in case of future attack. And indeed, barely two generations later the Matis, taking advantage of a swarming of [[Kitin|kitins]] in the desert regions which decimated Fyros populations, again turned their eyes to the west and south. However, the Trykers were saved from ever feeling the full force of the Matis. Indeed, it was a far greater force that swept the Trykers from their ancient lands. Kitin onslaughts progressed into [[Matis]] territory from the north literally devouring Matis battalions from behind before moving into Tryker lake lands and eradicating all traces of hominkind.<br />

The [[Black Circle]] is one of the tribes studying the [[Goo]], doing so in the [[Grove of Umbra]]. It is comprised of all races, and like all tribes studying the Goo they follow the Karavan and are at odds with the Zoraï nation, ''thus they may attack Kami disciples or Zoraï trying to enter their camp''. Of all the tribes studying the Goo though, the [[Black Circle]] is probably the most notorious. It is whispered they have a shadowy hand behind the scenes of many important events, the most notable being the murder of the Tryker governor Still Wyler. <br />

Urged by some morbid fascination, they spend their time studying the vile substance and its effects on the flora, fauna and homins. The Woven Bridles <ref>On [[Leanon]] and [[Aniro]], the Woven Bridles were known as the "Desert Raiders" or "Raiders of the Desert". This name is simpler and more functional for describing the tribe as outsiders would see them. One could thus guess that this is how others call them, while "[[Woven Bridles]]" is the tribe's own preferred ancestral name. </ref> are an aggressively expansionist tribe of Fyros who settled in the desert of [[Hidden Source]], within the border of the Matis kingdom. Unlike the more peaceful Fyros of the [[Oasis Diggers]] who live in the same region, the Woven Bridles seek to conquer the Hidden Source for the Fyros, and they are at constant war with both the Matis nation itself and it's allies in the region, the tribe of [[The Arid Matis]]. The Witherings continent is made up of only 6 regions. The inner 3 regions are notoriously maze-like, while the outer 3 are largely open jungle. The continent is being encroached on from all sides by the [[Goo]], and there is a [[kitin]] nest in each of the 3 corners, though 2 are currently abandoned.<br />

Despite the welcoming and colourful labyrinth of plant life, the perils are manifold. The jungle in many areas is beset by the pestilent [[goo]] - a cancer that nibbles inexorably at life ravaging habitats, plants and bearing forth hideous monsters. However, the experienced explorer will be rewarded by the many beautiful resources that can be found here like precious amber.<br />

The Witherings have a moderate population of tribes. Most regions of the jungle are home to two tribes having to share the region, but unlike in the [[Verdant Heights]], most of these tribes manage to indeed share the region peacefully, and none of these tribes are directly at war with eachother. There is still a stark contrast between the central region and the outlying regions though. The central regions are home to the [[Icon Worshippers]], [[Hamazans of the Dead Seed]], [[Shadow Runners]], [[Tutors]] and the [[Company of the Eternal Tree]]. Tribes that, although greatly varying in their goals and means, at least all follow the Kami and are on speaking terms with the Zoraï . The outlying regions however, harbor mostly tribes who follow the Karavan, many of which also study the Goo. The [[Antikamis]], [[Goo Heads]], [[Black Circle]] and [[Master of the Goo]] are all made up of sinister fanatics who are outright hostile to the Zoraï nation, and indeed no other government has to fend off so many dangerous tribes as the [[Zoraï]] one. Lastly, the intelligent Gibbaï of the [[Gibads]] tribe also hide deep in the jungle, living there peacefully unless provoked.<br />

==Overview==<br />
This is where all characters start out in the game. From 18 May 2009 onwards a subscribed account is no longer needed to leave [[Silan]]. Any character can leave Silan at any time, but beware you cannot return once you've left.<br />
<br />
[[Silan]] contains many different people with which the player can interact with, above all trainers for [[fighting]], [[magic]], [[harvesting]] and [[crafting]], mission givers for both factions [[Kami|the Kami]] and [[Karavan|the Karavan]] and a set of missions for the Rangers. All missions given on [[Silan]] act as a tutorial for [[Ryzom]] i.e. Silan should not convey the idea that [[Ryzom]] as a whole is quest-centric.<br />

The main world of [[Atys]] has many different ecosystems each with their own animals, and [[Silan]] attempts to show off as many of them as possible in a small area. Thus [[Silan]] combines a mainly [[forest]] ecosystem with a [[lakelands]] area and a [[jungle]] area as well as a [[Goo]] zone and a ruined town. It then crams the whole thing full of weakened versions of some of Atys' most exotic [[animals]].<br />

===Arena===<br />
This is the only [[PvP]] area on the island. As far as can be seen the arena is naturally formed and many resources can be found within it. It should be noted that the abundance of sources should not make you less wary of the Arena.<br />

===Hunting Grounds===<br />
Where the inhabitants of the ranger camp hunt [[bodoc]]s and other herbivores for food. [[Bodoc]]s, [[yubo]]s, [[izam]], and [[rendor]] can be found here, as well as the [[ragus]] that prey on them.<br />

===Kitins Jungle===<br />
An uncharted area of horror and unknown dangers. As the name implies it's jungle ecosystem and the only place on the island where the [[kitin]] threat is present. [[kipee]]s and [[kipesta]]s roam here and the area is rumoured to be inhabited by a giant [[kirosta]].<br />

===Ruins of Silan===<br />
A city which was built by the [[Matis]] when they resurfaced. The [[Matis]] began experimenting with the [[intelligent plants]] in the region, namely the [[slaveni]], to make extracting resources easier. This eventually led to the city's downfall and the ruins are all that remain of it. These days the ruins are inhabited by looters.<br />

Technically, only this ruined town is called [[Silan]]. The island has no official name, and because the ruined town was the central feature of the island, the entire island has come to be referred to as [[Silan]].<br />

===Shining Lake===<br />
This lake with an island in the middle forms a miniature subtropical ecosystem. Though the shores around the lake are full of dangers, homins are completely safe in it's waters. The island in the middle is home to a population of [[cray]]s, including one gigantic specimen.<br />

===Blight Zone===<br />
An area of the island ravaged by the [[Goo]]. Contaminated and sickly creatures wander this place, while some homins seek to abuse the Goo for their own purposes. Several missions enlist the player's aid in pushing back the Goo.<br />

==The Ranger Camp==<br />
The only inhabited settlement on the island, and where all new refugees first arrive. This camp was set up by the Rangers of Atys specifically as a place of training where new arrivals to [[Atys]] can learn all they need to survive. <br />
<br />
In the camp are all the people who offer missions to young homins to learn them the ropes of things. Guilan Guiter gives mission to teach fighting, Nomis Merclao missions to teach magic, Milles Dodoine missions to teach harvesting and Sterga Hamla missions to teach crafting. The Kami and Karavan give some missions to teach homins about the [[Goo]], and Chiang the Strong gives some final missions to teach homins about bandits and [[kitin]]. There are also trainers to teach you new skills and a guide to point you to all these people. Lastly, there is a market where homins can buy and sell materials and equipment.<br />

Highly cultivated aesthetes well versed in forest botany, the Matis are both a romantic and a conquering race. Early Matis tribes, settling around the wooded region of Matia, came together to form a community headed by tribe leaders. But decision making was slow and quarrelsome leading to discontent among the people. Soon the physically imposing and charismatic leader, Zachini, emerged rallying enough support from prominent community members to step forward as sole leader. The monarchy was born.<br />

It was under Zachini rule that the [[Momo|momos]], primitive tribes, were hunted to extermination under the pretext that the inferior creatures menaced the living space of the Matis peoples. The Matis quickly extended their dominions to the extremities of the forest lands where they were kept in check by the [[Fyros]] whose audacious emperor, Dyros the Great, secured a water route from the lake lands to the desert through Matis territory. This 'intrusion' on Matis territory triggered the start of the war of civilizations.<br />
<br />
The intermittent skirmishes went on for over one hundred forty years coming to a head with the Fire of Coriolis. The great inferno spread across Fyros wastelands preventing Fyros reinforcements from rallying to the defence of outposts positioned along the water route. The Matis king, Aniro III, took advantage of the diversion created by the fire to send in his armies to isolate and capture the Fyros military outposts. They were then able to overrun the lake lands of the [[Tryker]] who consequently fell into Matis slavery. But Matis domination was short lived as Fyros reprisals and Tryker rebellion soon made the aristocratic warriors resort back to a defensive strategy to retain their former dominions of before the conflagration.<br />

Another incident some two generations later led the Matis to enact a similar scenario. The great swarming of [[Kitin|kitins]] that first hit Fyros lands allowed the Matis to again take possession of the water route and rout Fyros garrisons. Again their demise was as quick as their ascension as kitin armies piled through Matis dominions in waves eradicating all traces of hominkind in their path.<br />

Originally planned by the rebel king Jinovitch to be a training ground and stronghold for his knights, it was never completed after he was ousted by the current king Yrkanis, with the help of the Tryker federal army during the battle for Loria.<br />
Now it serves as a place for warriors to settle their disagreements in mortal combat, and as a place for friendly duels.<br />

A spectacularly large structure, it sits off the crossroads on the road from Yrkanis to Natae.<br />
Its entrance is guarded by a massive skull of some unknown and probably extinct animal.<br />

If ever completed, it would be one of the largest homin made structures on Atys (after the Pyr city walls).<br />
