Similar to the [[Bambù|bambù]] of the [[Lakes]], this plant is characterized by rapidly growing lignified hollow stems forming a dense thicket.

Its flowering is very rare. The '''taleng''' is used as a material for ephemeral constructions, scaffoldings, but also for dishes and utensils.

The young shoots are consumed and are used with the [[Faham|faham]] to make a strong [[Zoraï|zoraï]] alcohol.
