The zoraï mask: explanation without religious considerations

Currently, the Lore explain Zoraï mask giving only the official view of the Cho Dynasty. However, some were quick to note inconsistencies: why Zoraïs born from non kamists parents do also wear the mask? This OOC document is intended for players who wish to better embody a Zoraï character.

The mask: its composition

The mask is alive and sensitive, it is made of bone, cartilage, flesh and sap. It can not be removed; this would represent a mutilation and a Zoraï can't survive without his mask. Its sensitivity makes it painful to mutilate the mask, and a Zoraï doing this gives a loud and disturbing sign for the others, that he is rejecting his mask. The reasons can be many.

The mask: how it appears

The mask is developed from the seed of life across the front. This is extremely painful as a tooth breaks through the gum, but on the whole face. In the old days, many young Zoraï went crazy because of pain in this thrust. Since the adoption ceremony was developed to support young people in this suffering, using drugs to reduce pain and make it bearable. The thrust is generally a few hours, but this varies between individuals. This is why non-believer Zoraï still practice an adoption ceremony, although they often call it otherwise. At the Kamist adoption ceremony, the officiating priests accompany children in their faith, and lead them to actually think that they are the kami who handed them the covenant sign mask, aided by drugs. But not everyone is fooled.

Removing the mask

If we remove the mask with a Zoraï he dies. Also, if the operation is performed slowly, it causes terrible suffering, the innervation of the mask being directly connected to the brain, however this consideration is beyond the scope of what hominscan understand.

The emotions

The mask rigidity prevents Zoraï show their emotions as other homins through a facial expression. To overcome this situation, they have a very precise gestural code enabling them to identify their immediate emotions. For example, discomfort is indicated with a nod on the right to look briefly over his elbow. The more general emotions (good mood, ...) are indicated by subtle makeup.Template:Portal Zorai
