  • to Refyia for your magnificent lucios, whose framing and finesse of the grain are matched only by your burning and imperial beauty,
  • to the Imperial Library staff for giving me access to their treasure of knowledge,
  • to the various members of tribes who granted me an interview,
  • and finally to my father, who left too early because of that damn kirosta…

Introduction

The Fyros people is more than just an Empire and its cities. It is also a multitude of tribes scattered over the Bark, some still very strongly committed to the Empire, while others openly declare war on it. This work deals with these tribes, thus bringing a new perspective on Fyros history. The informations were gathered by talking to some tribal members, but also by consulting the archives of the Imperial Academy. Note, however, that some informations are to be taken on a conditional basis, as not all tribes are open to dialogue with a patriot, especially when this patriot is in the status of an akenak.

Tribes are here sorted into three categories. There are the officially friendly tribes, that is, those who support the Empire and therefore have its trust. They can be based in the Burning Desert or outside. Then come the tribes rather neutral with the Empire. They all have a common history with the Empire but some are a little bit in disagreement with it, while others prefer to live their lives on their side. Lastly, there are tribes that are enemies of the Empire. These tribes are composed of homins in open war with the Empire. Only those tribes that have a link to Fyros history are included in this list. No Matis tribe is therefore part of it.

All these tribes are then sorted according to their location on Atys, namely the Burning Desert, i.e. the one under the authority of the Fyros Empire, the "matis" desert, i.e. officially under the authority of the Matis, and lastly the Prime Roots.

In the Burning Desert…

The Leviers

The Leviers camp

The Leviers tribe had been created in 2505 in response to the persecution of the Fyros orchestrated by the Matis, who have decided in 2504 to impose a surtax on Fyros goods passing through the Verdant Heights between the Desert and the tryker country.

The Leviers also had the purpose of fighting smuggling in order to guarantee the arrival of quality Fyros products essential to daily life. The Leviers believe that the best fyros products should be reserved for Fyros and not sold to foreigners. They are thus for the introduction of a tax on Fyros products sold to foreigners. They monitor commercial activities in the Imperial Dunes region. The authorities in Pyr have a more open attitude towards foreign merchants and consider the attitude of the Leviers to be rather excessive. The Leviers follow the Kamis, who they consider to be the guardians of the natural resources of the Bark, which allows the Fyros craftsmen to practice their art.

The Water Breakers

The Water Breakers camp

The tribe lives on the edge of the Oflovak's Oasis. It is composed of highly talented tanners. These Fyros craftsmen are incomparable, who provide the city of Pyr with high quality products. The need for water, essential for their work, brought them to the Oflovak's Oasis. Conscious of the chance to work in this refreshing environment, the Water Breakers work tirelessly to maintain their privileges.

Since they have very little leisure time, they do not appreciate teaching their techniques. However, they will share their knowledge if the apprentice is gifted or willing to do the dirty work. They also know a technique of beer brewing they keep secret.

The Water Breakers consider the Fyros as their best customers. The Matis and some Zoraïs are also among the customers. Moreover, the presence of Matis in the tribe is due to the fact that some Matis, surprised by the know-how of the Water Breakers, have decided to stay within the tribe to develop their tanning skills. Trykers, as for them, are often seen as thieves and are therefore frowned in their camp. The tribe follows the Kamis as guardians of the water sources. The current tribal chief is the master tanner Boeseus Xalon. He's an initiate. He is in charge of conducting a rite about the famous Fyros explorer Oflovak Rydon.
