Preface

I'm still remembering the day when the seed of the SKA was planted.

We were at an Avalae assembly where we were debating on what we had to do to face up to the numerous mounts that the kitins of the depths had made on Atys. It was blindingly obvious for lots of us that we had to get rid of them as quickly and safely as possible. But a few of us have seen an opportunity in this extremely rare event.

Any general of the army worthy of this name will tell you that the knowledge of the ennemy gives you an advantage during the war against this one.

We have decided, a small number of Matis, to embark on the study of our ennemy, the Kitin.

The Karan Stevano trusted us and gave us carte blanche on the subject. We had first to prove that we were able to organise ourselves and that efficiency was there.

Since the Kitin doesn't make any difference between the homins, we have hence proposed to the other civilized people of Atys to join us so that they could also contribute to this adventure.

Today the SKA is existing, and we're trying to rebuild an efficient search against the Kitin. Our ultimate goal is the destuction of the kitins. But before that we'll have to go through steps such as better knowing it, better defending against it, better figthing it.

Any homin with a bit of intelligence can ask himself "When will the third great swarm come?". No one can tell today, but what is certain is that nothing allows to say it will never come. But when this day will come, will we have done everything to be able to fight it better? Will we be once more forced to endure exodus? If the SKA is existing it's precisely for us to be strong enough at the day of the third big swarm not to have to flee.

We, Matis, have started this adventure. And today we are proud and happy to see that the Tryker people and the Zorai people have joined us in this adventure. We keep of course good relationships with the Rangers in order to make mutal profits.

Today the SKA has the honour of making available to the homins a base document on the detailed characteristics of the kitins on their fighting abilities.

I want to thank especially the serae Zendae for bringing this study to fruition. Along with all those who have brought their help in the making of this book. Be it a one day or an every moment help, be it on the ground or in the libraries. Every received help is useful and acceptable.

May the SKA progress and succeed.

  Filira Erminantius, Viscount of Avalae

Introduction

This publication gathers all known information thus far on the fighting characteristics of the kitins.
It is based first on the researches coming from amber cubes.
Regarding each kitin, part of the information comes from the measurements done by an old tryker guild (Ballistic Mystix)[1].But these measurements have been greatly extended by the ones of the SKA members, in order to have a complete database.
This publication gives as well tables with a global view than a detailed record for each kitin, along with a comment by the Master of Arms.
