Small herbaceous plant. Its flowers, blue or purple, are hermaphroditic. The calyx has five teeth, often quite narrow. The petals of the flower are bell shaped, opening into five lobes; there are five stamens, inferior ovary, solitary style.

The fruit is a multi-seeded capsule. The roots of the campana produce a whitish sap used as a disinfectant.

The flowers are part of the composition of the Matis wine called “Dandelion wine”.
