Using KanBoard (KB) in [TranslationTeam]
As every member of the Ryzom Team, we are using Kanboard for managing our tasks. For those not knowing KanBoard or for new members of the Translation Team, here are some tips and specificity to become quickly efficient. TO MAKE A TRANSLATION 1. Verify the task you want to work on is not already assigned to someone else. If not, assign it to yourself. 2. Drag and drop the task in the WIP column. 3. When translation is done, drag and drop the task in the Proofreading column. 4. Edit the task to unassign it and add your name followed by 1 in the tag field. TO MAKE A PROOFREADING 5. 1 Verify the task you want to work on is not already assigned to someone else. If not, assign it to yourself. 6. 2 When prooreading is done, drag and drop the task in the Done column. 7. 4 Edit the task to unassign it and add your name followed by 2 in the tag field. Go for example to this page and choose the colors you like: https://www.w3schools.com/colors/colors_picker.asp Click left on your avatar in the top right corner of KB and choose and then on the left side. Preparation Every member can add tasks to Requests Write a short title and add a link to your text with a short hint. If it is a pad, add your avatar name and which text is the origin into the pad. translation/check”. Do it for every language: DE/EN/FR/ES/RU. Let it be unassigned. Then click on and choose for every sub-task. Working Now choose the language, you would like to work on. Click right in the left corner of the task and click on Then drag and drop the task to Work in progress Translate the text to the language you assigned to. Add your avatar name and the date you started and finished the translation (or proofreading). When you finished your task click on top of the task (right to ). Remove your Assignment by choosing Add a tag with you avatar name. 1 → You translated it. 2 → You proof-read it. WAY OF WORKING IN DETAIL Our KB dashboard which you can customize/colorize as you wish – is shown above. If the “[Team] Translation” line does not appear in the list displayed by your own dashboard, please ask Tamarea to give you access. If it does, you can access the “[Team] Translation” board either by clicking on its name in the list or by choosing from the drop-down list (top right of your dashboard): ➢ The “[Team] Translation” board that is then displayed shows an array displaying seven lines, or “swimlanes” (for now: app_translate, Announcements and manuals, EVENTS, INGAME TEXT, LORE, Event texts and For later), each of them divided in six columns reading as below: ➢ Requests – here are listed the tasks requested by any member of the Ryzom Team; ➢ Selected requests to work on – here are listed the tasks whose request has been accepted; ➢ Tasks necessary to do the selected requests – here are listed the sub-tasks to work on; ➢ Work in progress – here are listed the works on sub-tasks in progress; ➢ Proofreading – here are listed the works in checking; ➢ Done! – here are listed the completed tasks and sub-tasks. Most of the time, tasks are created in the “Requests” column, then (when it’s time to work on them) moved to the “Selected requests to work on” . They are then split into four sub-tasks (one per official language) which are then moved to the “Tasks necessary to do the selected requests” column or the “Proofreading” one if they are mere checks. When you see a sub-task that you can take care of, first check if is not assigned to someone else. If someone is already working on it, you will see their avatar in the right corner and their name on the same line, like this: If the task has no assignee, you can work on it, starting by assigning it to yourself. For that, you can click on the arrow just to the right of the sub-task’s number of the task and then selecting “Assign to me”: There are other ways to assign a task that you will find, using KB. Then you will move the task to the “Work in progress” column. To work on your sub-task, just click on its name to open its detailed description where you will find the URL of the text to be translated or proofread (a right click will open this description in another window/tab of your browser). Once the sub-task is completed, you have to move (drag and drop) it to the ”Proofreading” column (case of a “translation/check” sub-task) or the “Done!” one (case of a “check” sub-task) and edit it by clicking on the same arrow and then choosing “Edit the task” . In the screen then displayed, just below the description of the sub-task you will find the “Tags” field for input: type there your name followed by 1 (if the sub-task you just completed was a translation) or 2 (if the sub-task you just completed was a proofreading) and then press . This tag will allow someone who might have a question to find who to ask. Finally, unassign the sub-task (field for input on the right of the screen) and “Save” (button under “Tags” field). Here it is: you have completed and reported on your first task.
