Grass of the same family as the pocea, it grows in the wettest areas of the Forest.
The upper spike of the maydea contains round brown seeds that are crushed into flour for homin consumption.
Like the pocea, its stem takes on a spiral shape in spring. It also produces a substance used to stiffen clothing fibres (starch).
