The cuach is a perennial herbaceous plant bearing a yellowish floral stalk.

Flowers, softening and soothing, are used in chest ointments. The leaves are used to reduce bruising.

The whole plant, especially the roots, has analgesic, anti-spasmodic, diuretic, expectorant and pectoral properties.
