Les Mektoubiers sont une ancienne unité d'élite de l'armée Matis, dans l'ancien royaume de Matia. Formant un ordre mektouberesque, ils étaient particulièrement redoutés de leurs ennemis, notamment des Tryker qu'ils chassaient sans relâche comme du gibier (voir l'histoire de Loria).
Les mektoubiers combattaient à la lance Palor ou au pistolet Maka. Ils disposaient également d'une épée longue Slathe pour le combat à pied.
De nos jours, la Mektouberie matis a disparu avec l'oubli des techniques de combat monté.
