Contents
Effect
A creature under the effect of Madness has a chance of hitting themself with any attack they make while they are maddened, be it a melee attack, ranged attack, or magic spell. If they hit themself with a healing spell, the healing will be nullified.
Madness as spell
Players are able to inflict Madness on a target using the Madness spell from the Offensive Affliction Magic skill. This spell is first available at level 10 magic. Like with all affliction spells, a link must be maintained to keep the target maddened.
Players can increase their chances of resisting a Madness Affliction spell by wearing jewelry that raises their Desert resistance.
Enemies using Madness
Since homin mages are capable of casting Madness affliction spells, it may be used against you in PvP. It may also be cast against you in PvE by bandits or tribes guards, who do not need to maintain a link to keep you maddened.
Madakams are also able to make their enemies hit themselves with their own attacks, but they don't actually seem to inflict Madness on their enemies. Rather, they have an ability called Rebound that bounces attacks directed at the Madakam right back. Protecting yourself against Madness thus won't help you fight Madakams.
Creatures immune to Madness
There are no creatures immune to Madness. None. It's the only affliction spell that no creature is immune to.
Madness Bug
There is a long-running bug with the Madness affliction spell, where if you use Madness spells in a team to level your Offensive Affliction skill, you will receive somewhat less experience than the rest of the team. Using any other Offensive Affliction spell does give you the same experience as everyone else.
