Who here does NOT know the Great Swarm? The Great Swarming... The Great Swarm occurred when miners broke into a Kitins' nest. Soon after, they came out of the ground and started killing everyone.
Oflovak Rydon was a Fyros living in the Old Lands.
During the Great Swarming, as he was taking the refugees away from the Kitins, Elias Tryton appeared to him on a hilltop. Elias told him about the Rainbows but also warned him that he was guiding the refugees in the wrong direction.
Following this meeting, he turned back and reached the Rainbows and the safe haven that had been prepared there. But this is only part of the story, for he soon became worried about those left behind, those whom he had not been able to lead to the Rainbows. So he left the refuge and found his way back, thanks to his knowledge of the stars. This way is the Way, the Way of the Exodus, which still today allows refugees to flee the kitins of the Old Lands and reach the New Lands.
Even more important to us, the Rangers, Oflovak Rydon is the one who first recruited the homins who vowed to help the refugees reach the New Lands. Some of them were the founders of what later became the Atys Rangers . He did not create the Rangers himself, nor did he define their mission, nor did he found their camp (all of which was done by other homins who came after him), but his deeds alone justify that he is remembered.
Let us never forget, at last, that Oflovak began his life as a simple adventurer and explorer, not as a leader, and that he turned his back on that life to save the homins from the Kitins before spending six years tracing and marking the Way. That is why we honor his memory the best we can when we fight the Kitins and protect hominity here in the New Lands, but also when, turning our backs on the facilities offered by this or that Power to selfish adventurers, we vow to work to help all homins.
This is the Way of the Ranger , but all homins should honor Oflovak Rydon.
