War of Civilizations (2199-2481)

At that time, the Fyros, led by their daring emperor Dyros the Great, were trying to remedy their water shortage by convoying the precious resource from the lake region inhabited by the Tryker to their capital: Fyre. This "Water Road" ran along the coast[1] through territory claimed by the Matis. The Matis quickly realized the strategic importance of controlling this route. The first skirmishes soon led to open warfare. The War of Civilizations had just begun.

The war lasted more than two centuries, with skirmishes, conquests and reconquests. However, neither side gained the upper hand, and the Water Road was only cut off intermittently. The situation changed abruptly with the outbreak of the History#The_Fire_of_Coriolis_.282435.29.

Legends abound as to what sparked off this terrible fire, but the Matis wasted no time in seeking the causes: temporarily, the Fyros army was unable to reinforce the many outposts dotted along the coast, protecting the Water Route. A powerful army, led by King Matis Aniro III himself, went on the offensive. The Fyros outposts quickly fell, and only the proud city of Karavia[2], the very symbol of the struggle between the two peoples, held out for some time, before falling in turn to the thousands of spears of the "Black Duke", Giani di Tylini.

The Matis victory seemed assured. Armies led by the noble Mektoub-Knights and the terrifying Ragus-Trainers quickly seized strategic positions in the lakes of the Trykoth region, enslaving many Trykers.

But this domination, which would later have far-reaching consequences, was short-lived. The Trykers revolted against the Matis aristocracy, and the Fyros went on the counter-offensive. Caught in a pincer movement, the Matis had no choice but to swallow their arrogance and retreat to their former positions.
