In the Jungle of the New Lands, at the time of the founding of the Cities of Intuition, a group of corrupt Zorai Initiates disobeyed the Kami and used the Goo for criminal purposes, including assassinations. On an expedition near the Goo, they were approached by a Kami. Expecting to suffer its wrath, they were surprised to learn that it was a Contaminated/Fallen Kami, having lost its link with the Supreme Kami (referred to as Jena, at the time) after being contaminated by the Goo. The Fallen Kami had chosen them to be his Disciples. The Zoraïs voluntarily contaminated themselves to prove their devotion to him, and founded the Goo Heads sect.
The appearance of a Contaminated/Fallen Kami in Witherings in the year of Jena 2492 led to the emergence of a new sect considered particularly dangerous by the Theocracy. Members of this sect settled north-west of Zora, near the Goo.
Under the control of the Contaminated/Fallen Kami, they were taught a new path to enlightenment through contamination. Reports of the sect's members show that they not only contaminated themselves, but also began to contaminate plants, animals and humans, sharing with them what they considered to be their Gift. They developed drugs that prevented them from suffering the pain of contamination.
The Contaminated/Fallen Kami disappeared as mysteriously as it had appeared (disappearance linked to the history of the Diplomatic Outpost of the Demon's Crossing).
With their longevity greatly reduced by their own contamination, the Goo Heads renewed their numbers by contaminating other homins to join their ranks and perpetuate their unholy work. Although the sect was originally made up of Zorais, it soon included Matis, Trykers and Fyros, contaminated by chance encounters with travelers. The region in which they were active was named by the Theocracy the Knot of Dementia in ref.
The year of Jena 2519 saw a meteoric advance of the Goo in the Witherings. The Goo Heads were no strangers to the disease, but the Dynastic Authorities knew little about the strategies employed by the sect and were unable to counter them effectively. The spread of Goo was finally stopped by a fire in 2520, reducing to nothing the Illuminati's efforts to contaminate the Witherings.
Some thirty years after the sect was founded, the Goo Heads turned their attention to the Prime Roots. To this end, they formed an elite corps of contaminated trykers: the Chlorogoos. Their advanced camp was built in the region of the Gate of Obscurity, on the Lands of Umbra. The contamination of certain local plants enabled them to develop a particularly powerful drug.
The Chlorogoos made a decisive discovery in 2533 when they explored a segment of the Exil Road [1] at a point secured by the Rangers of Atys: Silan. Immediately, the Goo Heads went on the offensive and succeeded in spreading the Goo over part of the area. The Rangers saw them as a threat and were able to contain their misdeeds to a certain extent, but the Illuminates and the Chlorogoos persisted in their efforts to corrupt the Silan region. As their actions gained them new notoriety, the Karavan began to take an interest in them and decided to send agents to their leaders in the New Lands to try to understand their motivations.
The new ambitions of the Goo Heads required greater resources, so the sect launched a new recruitment campaign in Witherings in 2536 under the assumed name of the True Sons of Jena. They used the resources of the Karavan to seduce the Jenaïsts Kamists who had become a minority in Witherings. Some Zoraï initiates were fooled by their rhetoric, but all those who were caught by the dynastic authorities were arrested on the spot. The most illustrious case was the Curator of Jen-Laï, Nuo Tun, who died in Zora's jails. The Sage Supplice attempted to perform exorcisms on two other members of the True Sons of Jena (Mang Bei-Fao and Gao Ni-Cheng), resulting in their deaths. Recruitment of the True Sons of Jena was eventually halted, but the successive arrests and deaths were perceived by the Theocracy's Jenaist Kamis Kamists as persecution against them and damaged their relations with the Council of Elders. A new Curator of Jen-Laï was chosen from among the families most loyal to the Great Mask Mabreka-Cho: (Lingi-Chon Vao, daughter of Zora's Chief of Guards, Shuai-Chon Vao).
The Goo Heads were contacted by the Zoraïs in 2544 after the Supplice's condition, contaminated by Goo, worsened. Under duress, the Leader of the Goo Heads, Gicha Cirinia, gave the Zoraïs Initiates a drug that eased the Sage's suffering for a time.
