In a panel we can display:
 +
— either a FIXED TEXT, unchanging from one day to the next.
 +
Incorporated into the portal via the ContentBox template, this text can be:
 +
      • written directly in the portal. Example: the text ”*Alinea - a needle-bearing tree, often comes [...] according to variety.“ constantly displayed in the right panel — see below — of the present portal.
 +
      • the complete reproduction of an article composed especially for the portal. Example: the article :Myths Flora displayed constantly, via ), in the same panel.
 +
 +
      • nommé [[Lumière sur/[nom du portail]/[Mois] ou [Semaine]/[quantième ou jour de la semaine]]] ;
 +
      • rangé dans la catégorie masquée [[Catégorie:Lumière sur/[nom du portail]]], elle-même rangée dans la catégorie masquée Catégorie:Modèle:Portail ;
 +

The wonderful flora of Atys

Concept art of a Rotoa tree.

We have two indexes of all the flora that can be found on Atys:

This section lists the flora of Atys as it appears to the laymen homin. Note that many of this 'flora' isn't even really plants, but actually fungi or even immobile animals. But you'd have to dabble in botany a bit before you realise this.
The flora you may run into varies immensely based on the ecosystem of the continent you're in. Only a few plants appear in multiple ecosystems (like the Olansi tree that appears in both desert and lakelands). Thus the flora is classified by ecosystem.

Main Ecosystem(s) Jungle
Counterattack type None

Named alewo in olden times, this tree of disheveled appearance is from the same family as the arinish. The jayazeng produces a white, viscous sap which has elastic properties when dry and is used by Zoraïs. Its bark and foliage are highly flammable.

The story says that Sorrow* saw one day an ambassadress of the Karavan talking alone in front of one of these trees. Wanting to know what she was saying, he approached in silence, and was able to distinguish the words “Jaya Zeng”. Unfortunately, he stepped on a twig and the ambassadress heard him, stopping her conversation with the plant. Supplice then got closer and asked what “Jaya Zeng” meant. The ambassadress pointed to the tree, then disappeared. Remembering that the Karavan knew more than homins, he decided that it should be the true name of the tree, and since then Zoraïs call it so.

Matis, expert botanists, did the same when learning of this, while Fyros and Trykers contented themselves with giving it the name they were taught.

It is said that praying in front of one of these trees attracts the eye of the Karavan.

An older belief called it the “tree of misfortune” but the wiser homins remember that it had to be interpreted in the positive sense: by meditating in front of it, one can lay down one's misfortunes, hence its appearance.

*↑ Sorrow is a zoraï Sage who has the strange gift (or curse) of being able to feel what Atys feels, especially its suffering. He is also known as Supplice — that name being more common today.

Myths about Flora

Fyros Legend

The Great Tree is immortal, and its ashes, once cooled, regain their vitality. From the ashes come flowers and fruits. The flora spreads towards the sky in the hope of reaching other planets.

Matis Myth

All the vegetation was born from the hands of the Matis. These agile artists sculpted each of the elegant leaves of Atys. The Goo, or more rarely the original chaos, is responsible for any malformation.

Tryker Myth

The Seed has many offshoots that form the vegetation of Atys. Plants are not so cooperative with the capricious Kamis, but the Kamis nevertheless use them to generate and then feed their creatures. But the Flora of Atys needs protection. Otherwise the homin civilizations will perish, leaving nothing but the bestial prosperity of the corrupted Goo…
